central locking
righty Franny has got central lockin installed on her but it doesnt work, when i alarm her the doors dont lock but the alarm does, so when i open the doors after "locking" her the alarm goes off.
so what do i do? replace the central locking or what?

Re: central locking
Do you know if the alarm is wired up? And and as Dave said, does it work via the key?
If it doesn't work using the key, its not going to work using the alarm and it will probably be the central locking playing up. If it does work then its going to be on the alarm side i.e wiring

Re: central locking
when you lock the door the actuator for the alarm also arms. you might need to have the drivers central locking actuator replaced, as this usually controls the rest of the motors, letting them open and close.
the alrm actuator usually fit's around the key barrel and the central locking is usually linked to the turn of the key.

Re: central locking
On my alarm it just shorts the lock circuit or something, which triggers everything to lock

Re: central locking
Bugger...
Well you need to do some investigating... do you have a central locking unit hidden in the dash somewhere... probing the wires and testing for live and earth will be required.
Postive and Earth triggering is used by the actuators to lock/unlock... reversing the polarity basicly.

Re: central locking
Yeah, take the door apart and have a look to see what you've got. I'm assuming lx doesn't have central locking standard? Also trace the alarm wires for it and see where they go

Re: central locking
Has it got the fords central locking in there or after market? Do you know if it has worked at some point?

Re: central locking
you can test the alarm systems on the early fords. under the bonnet there is the bonnet alarm switch. hit that 5 times (i think) and it sets the alarm in diag mode. when you open a door that has the alarm sensor on it does a double or triple beep. it beeps if the alarm works. I think you lock the car then unlock it to clear the diag. that im not to sure.
Use this at your own risk. i do not take responsibility if this affects the alarm system.
